Behaviour Support Teacher · Edinburgh
I'm a SEND support teacher with a particular focus on PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), ADHD, and anxiety in children aged 4-16. I've spent 8 years teaching in both mainstream and specialist settings, and now work directly with families.
I take a low-demand, collaborative approach. I don't believe in behaviour charts or reward systems for neurodivergent children - instead, I help families understand the 'why' behind their child's behaviour and find strategies that work with their nervous system, not against it.
I offer parent coaching sessions, observe at home where possible, and create personalised support plans. I also liaise with schools to ensure consistency.
Sophie completely changed how we parent our PDA child. No more battles, no more meltdowns at bedtime. She helped us understand what was really going on and gave us tools that actually work.
After years of being told our son was 'just naughty', Sophie was the first professional who truly understood him. Her strategies have transformed our family life.
Sophie is empathetic, non-judgemental, and incredibly knowledgeable. She joined a call with our school and helped them see our daughter differently. Things have improved massively.
